Privacy Policy

TL;DR

MacYaps is a fully local Mac app. We don't track you, collect analytics, or sell any data. All audio triggers and custom sounds are processed entirely on your device. The only network activity is for license validation and update checks.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

MacYaps does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:

Personal information (name, email, etc.)
Usage analytics or telemetry
System events (battery level, WiFi status, CPU usage, etc.)
Audio files you add (custom sounds)
Crash reports
Location or device identifiers

There are no analytics libraries, tracking pixels, or third-party trackers in the app.

2. On-Device Processing

All triggers (low battery, charger events, WiFi changes, high CPU, etc.) are detected and processed locally on your Mac. No event data ever leaves your device.

3. Custom Sounds & User Content

When you add your own audio files or use custom voice packs:

All sounds stay on your Mac.
MacYaps does not upload, scan, or transmit your custom audio files.
You are solely responsible for ensuring any custom sounds you add do not infringe copyrights or other rights.

4. Local Storage

MacYaps stores your preferences (enabled triggers, selected voice packs, volume, custom sound mappings, etc.) locally using macOS UserDefaults. This data never leaves your computer.

5. Network Requests

MacYaps makes minimal network requests:

License validation — Only when activating or validating your license key (via a third-party service like Polar or Gumroad).
Update checks — Using Sparkle (standard open-source macOS updater) to check for new versions.

No other network connections are made.

6. Hardware & Permissions

MacYaps requires access to:

System notifications / event monitoring (for battery, WiFi, power, CPU, etc.)
Audio output (to play sounds)

It does not access your microphone, camera, location, contacts, photos, or any other sensitive data.

7. Third-Party Services

License management (e.g., Polar / Gumroad) — See their privacy policies.
Sparkle — Open-source update framework.
Voice clips — Pre-made voices were generated with ElevenLabs. All audio is bundled locally; there is no runtime connection to ElevenLabs.

8. Children's Privacy

MacYaps does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. Since the app collects no personal data, this section is largely not applicable.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. Continued use of MacYaps after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
